Rain forest area is the earth’s oldest living ecosystem. They are so amazing and beautiful. These incredible places cover only 6% of earth’s surface, but yet it contains more than half of the world’s plant and animal species! A rain forest can be described as a tall, dense jungle.The reason it is called a “Rain” forest is because of the high amount of rainfall it receives. Rain forests are also responsible for 28% of the world oxygen turnover.
Western Ghats (also known as Sahyadri) is a mountain range that runs parallel to the Western coast of Indian peninsula located entirely in India. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and is one of the eight “Hottest hotspots” of biodiversity in the world. The Western Ghats starts near the border of Gujarat and Maharashtra and runs approximately 1600KM (990 miles) through the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and Tamilnadu, ending near Kanyakumari, at the southern tip of India. These hills cover 1, 60,000 KM and the average elevation is around 3700FT (1200Mts).
The Nilgiris, known as the Blue Mountains, is part of the Western Ghats in western Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Kerala states of India. It has cloud-covered peaks, Dense forests, rushing streams, undulating emerald green planes, breathtaking views of valleys and glades. The entire area of 2500Sq.Km is known for its elevation, natural beauty, and tourist hotspots. There is no better mountain holiday destination in India than the Nilgiris.
