Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary is one of the most sought-after destinations of Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary located amidst the enchanting Nilgiri hills and shares its border with wildlife sanctuaries of Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu. The wildlife sanctuary is an established tiger reserve and it is contagious to the Bandipur national park and Wayanad wildlife sanctuary. As the name, “Mudumalai” suggests it is one of the oldest sanctuaries in the country with exotic flora and fauna. Activities at Mudumalai include jungle lodging, mountain trekking, bird watching, jungle safari, and elephant safari. The most common activity at the spot is sighting animals at their natural habitat. Animals present in the area include elephants, leopards, tigers, sambhars, mouse deer etc. you should not miss the opportunity to observe the wild animals in their natural residence. There are different facilities available for animal sighting. No private vehicles are allowed inside the park but there are vehicles provided by the park authority. Walking inside the park is also prohibited since there are several wild animals wandering inside the jungle.
What are the different types of safaris available?
- Van safari: A van service provided by the park and you will get 30 minutes to roam around the sanctuary. Open and closed vans are available.
- Private jeep safari: Private jeeps are not facilitated by the park, therefore, the jeeps cannot enter into the park. Instead, it goes through the road around the park. It depends on the availability of jeep drivers near the park.
- Elephant safari: the main attraction of the tourist spot is the elephant safari provided by the park authority. It is the most favorite safari of tourists from different parts of the globe.
Where can I get the pass for elephant safari?
Thepakadu is the entrance of the park and the main office of the park is located at Thepakadu. Passes are distributed from the entrance and elephants are accommodated in the Thepakadu elephant camp.
What is the timing of the elephant safari?
The park is open from morning 7 to evening 6 throughout the week. The elephant safari is available from 7 am to 8:30 am and, 3:30 pm to 5 pm. If you are going specifically for the elephant safari you should reach half an hour prior to the safari starting since the demand is too high.
How much is the charging for elephant safari?
A group of four people can go for a single safari and it costs INR 100 per head. The safari lasts for 30 minutes and it covers 15 km inside the park.
