Trekking through the grass meadow; Chembra Peak
Peaking around 2100 meter above sea level, Chembra peak is one of the highest peaks in the Western Ghats and the highest peak in Wayanad. It is located 8 km south-east of Kalpetta near Meppadi town. This peak joins the region of Wayanad hills and the Nilgiri hills. Trekking here is organized and facilitated by “The Chembra peak VSS” under the south Wayanad Forest Development Department.
The trekking is considered pretty safe since it’s overseen by the Forest department. They will provide trekking gears for rent and trekking guides, who are very familiar with the terrain.
The trek to the peak is a straight route through lush and green meadows which are rich in flora and fauna. The initial phase of the trek may be little difficult since the trails are steep and little hard to tackle. Thick mist and light drizzle will accompany you through the entire trip. In the middle of the trail, there is a heart-shaped water body. Here you can take a little rest before continuing the trek to the top.
