Banasura Sagar Dam

This huge water reservoir has got its name from the Banasura hills in its background. It is known to be the largest earthen dam in India and second largest in Asia. It is situated on one of the tributaries of Kabani river. This place is a paradise for photography lovers. The picturesque view of Banasura Sagar dam bordered by the Banasura hills is mind-blowing. Speedboat ride is the main attraction here. Pedal boats are also available. Trekking at the Banasura hill is another thing to do here. A 21 km ride from Kalpetta will make you reach this beautiful destination. There is no such ideal time to visit the dam, but the post-monsoon season would be better.

Chembra Peak

It is the highest peak in Wayanad with a “heart-shaped” lake on the top of it. Chembra peak is a perfect place for trekking lovers. A 3 hr trekking will take you to the viewpoint on top of it, from where you can enjoy the beauty of Wayanad. Lake can be accessed on the midway to the top. The heart-shaped lake and the viewpoints are the major attractions here. One has to take permission from the forest office in Meppadi, the nearest town, to go for trekking. Almost all seasons are suitable for a visit. Chembra peak is located 8 km from Kalpetta town.

Kuruva Island { Kuruvadweep

Soochipara Water Falls

Pookode Lake

The freshwater lake which is situated 5kms away from Kalpetta.This is somewhere you want to relax for a while by watching the reflections and ripples on the water. Edakkal Caves

It’s a perfect place for trekking lovers. Unlike Chembra peak, Climbing/trekking caves are more difficult as it is too steep. Old aged people with lungs or heart diseases are not recommended to trek the caves. Rocks may be slippery in the rainy season, so it is not the best time to go there.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

Wayanad is definitely an ideal place for wildlife lovers. It is a place in Kerala where we can easily spot a deer or an elephant. Several other varieties of species are found here. We can see tigers occasionally. The Four Ranges coming under this Sanctuary are Muthanga, Kurichiat, Sulthan Bathery and Tholpetty. Forest Department of Kerala has put many restrictions for the safety of endangered species.
